Uni Room Tour and Tips

Slightly different style of post, but I've been at University for two months now, studying Fashion Buying and Merchandising (which I am loving!) at Manchester Met. So I thought id share with you how I've decorated my Uni room and some tips from my experience. As I am a HUGE bargain hunter, most of the things I bought for Uni were super cheap, which is always a bonus for us poor students! I hope I give you some inspiration for decorating your own personal space :)

My favourite angle of the room! As you can see, I've gone for a bohemian/Indian style of décor throughout my room, mainly because I fell in love with all the beautiful home-ware that fit the theme!

Wall throw: Ebay (around £13). There are so many beautiful variations of wall throws on Ebay!

 Dream catcher: Gift (similar available on Ebay)

Duvet Cover: Ebay (around £15)

Sequin cushions: Ebay (£1.99 each!)

Satin cushions: The Range (£3 each)

Bed throw: Ebay (around £7)

TIP: Buy some nice cushions to throw on your bed, although it can be a pain in the a*** to take them off when you get into bed and to put them back on again, it makes your room feel loads more homely!

TIP: Maybe not a wall throw if its not your kind of thing, but something that covers your walls makes the room feel less empty and 'cold'. Some large posters of pictures could make the hell of a difference!

I mixed a lot of gold and silver décor around the room because I loved the look it gave, and it makes my room feel so luxurious!

Buddha: The Range (£10)

Metal cup: I stole from my parents house (shh). These kind of items are easy to find in charity/thrift shops.

This picture looks awful quality but its because the pictures really old.... and slightly dusty I must admit. I found this in the attic at home and thought MINE! If your wanting a similar look, you could easily print a picture of a Buddha from the internet and just stick it in a frame :)

TIP: Get yourself some fairy lights! (I got battery ones, so no fuss with wires!) On a chilled night when your laying in bed, it feels so relaxing and homely just to have some fairy lights and a lamp on, instead of the horrible industrial white light that comes in most uni rooms!

Lantern: Stole from home (you can get similar ones at most furniture stores)

Buddha tray with pebbles and candle: Store 21 (£3!!)

TIP: Buy yourself some nice little ornaments to go with the theme of your room! But be careful, I reckon if I got any more my room could look clustered! Ornaments can be a lovely touch, but its nice to have a minimalistic feel to a room!

Mirror: Thrift shop (this was around £15, I spray painted it gold)
Elephant: The Range (£10)
Lamp: Store 21 (£3)

TIP: Buy yourself a desk mirror and a lamp. Nothing worse than at night time when there's no daylight, to attempt to do your make up with crappy lighting! Most uni rooms only come with a bathroom mirror, so a desk mirror is very useful if your a messy make up applier like me! (My desk if usually full of bottles of make up before I go out on a night... ooops).

Bag: Gift from India

TIP: Buy a full length mirror! If your a mirror selfie type of gal (like me) or you want to see what your outfit looks like from head to toe before you head off out, this is essential!

Workout mat: Sports Direct (around £6)

Weights: Sports Direct (around £4 each)

Skipping rope: Sports Direct (around £3)

Work out top: Sports Direct (around £4)

Work out shorts: Sports Direct (around £5)

TIP: If your wanting to keep healthy or fit at Uni, be realistic. Are you really going to go the the Gym which you have paid your membership for? For me, I knew it would be a waste of money paying a membership for the gym because its never been my kind of thing. I joined ResultsWithLucy (which I am absolutely loving, its the only fitness programme which has made me enjoy and look forward for exercise). To get me motivated to start, I went to Sports Direct and picked up these cheap work out bits and bobs which I am loving! Lets see if I'm being this enthusiastic a couple months down the line....

TIP: If your going to bring candles (which I think its a lovely homely touch) don't get caught! Candles are not allowed at my halls of residence, and to be fair, I don't light them often, so be aware of flat inspections, and obviously remember to always blow them out!

I hope this little blog post has gave people going to uni, or people at uni, or people who just want some bedroom inspiration, a little guidance of some essentials and nice little bits that can make your stay at uni more pleasant! I am loving university and it was the best decision of my life. If anyone has any questions about university, feel free to ask :)
